As part of the efforts of the Lagos State Polytechnic to sustaining its giant strides amongst the comity of tertiary institutions, LASPOTECH held its 7th Public Lecture on Wednesday, 18th November, 2020 at the School of Agriculture Auditorium. The lecture titled “Developing Viable Public Transportation Systems for the Socio Economic prosperity of Lagos State, Nigeria”, was
delivered by Professor Bamidele A. Badejo, of the Department of Geography, Olabisi Onabanjo University Ago-Iwoye and a former Commissioner for Transportation in Lagos State (2007-2011). Professor Badejo drew attention to the benefits of public transportation which include mobility for all, reduced traffic congestion, safety, fuel savings, pollution reduction and positive impact on trade, commerce and industry. The renowned Professor mentioned the existing situations and consequences of Public transportation in Lagos State as a result of its urban nature, with an estimated population of 25million which manifests inefficiency; poor and lopsided land use; poorly designed and maintained urban road network; unorganized sector among others, manifesting in confusion, anarchy and entropy leading to negative social, economic, environmental, psychological and political consequences on the overall existence and survival of Lagos and its people. He concluded there was a compelling need for the Lagos State Government to totally reform the public transport system in order to support and strengthen the capacity for the development and prosperity of the State.

The Acting Rector, Mr Olumide Metilelu in his welcome address reminded the audience about the cosmopolitan nature of Lagos and the need to move people and goods around without stress, hence the need for the lecture. Metilelu paid tribute to the efforts of the Lagos State Government in this direction, especially the injection of BRT buses into the transportation system to oust the existence of dilapidated buses. Furthermore, He noted that the growing population of inhabitants of Lagos State calls for corresponding advancement in the public transportation. He mentioned that the socio productivity depends on the availability of viable public transportation systems. The Event was attended by eminent personalities which includes: Prof. Kunle Ade Wahab, Fmr Chairman, Governing Council, Hon. (Mrs) Yinka Babalola, Member 12th Governing Council, Chief Babatunde Rotinwa (FLSP), and Immediate Past Chairman, Lagos State Local Government Service Commission, Dr Adegbayi Hassan, Olabisi Onabanjo University to mention but few.

Extension of Staff Audit
